Networking - - - Your Way

The Momentum Files #9

A free 3-step guide to relationship-building!

So, tell me, when is the last time you pursued something – anything - without first seeking input, information, a referral, some advice or an opinion?

Think about your last major purchase. Or the time you were looking to hire a reputable contractor. Maybe you recently purchased a car or planned a big trip? Chances are, you reach out to other people all the time to ask questions, seek advice and get informed. And you probably don’t think twice about doing it.

And yet, what comes naturally to you in everyday life can suddenly feel difficult and overwhelming when it comes to your career.

When we do the same reaching out to people for our careers, it’s called networking. And that word brings about feelings of fear, overwhelm, inadequacy – it’s basically a 4-letter word to a lot of people. But it doesn’t have to be.

I define networking as connecting.

That’s it. Connecting with people. Building relationships.

Talking to a stranger while standing in line at Starbucks waiting to order your latte – that’s networking.

Reaching out to a business mentor to learn more about a job opportunity you’d like to pursue – also networking.

If we could redefine the whole idea of networking and realize that your professional networking approach could feel as natural and comfortable as it does to chat up a stranger at Starbucks or call a friend for advice, then you will be primed to effectively network in a way that helps you reach your professional goals.

At its core, networking is taking what you already know about engaging in relationships – what you already do every day - and integrating it into your professional life with a strategic, targeted and results-based approach.

Now I am very, very passionate about networking. I think it’s fun. But rather than trying to convince you of this, I prefer to show you a way to network that is easy, builds your confidence, eliminates that dread and uncertainty and helps you succeed.

Skeptical? Remember, you already incorporate networking into your daily life. You already have what it takes. We just have to redefine what it means to network in your professional world.

So here is a magical little concoction called The Brilliant Networking Formula for High-Achieving Professionals on LinkedIn. Three steps. Countless benefits. But let’s count off a few of them anyway:

✔ You’ll increase your connections.

✔ You’ll learn how to adjust your approach as your situations change.

✔ You’ll strategically network with the right people in a way that builds real relationships.

It’s yours. It’s free. And I hope it changes the way you network (and feel about networking!).

So, tell me, what does networking mean and feel like to you? Reply and give me the details!
