Tapping into Your Why
The Momentum Files #45
You deserve to love what you do.
If you’re not loving your career – if it isn’t enhancing your work and life – you’re not alone. And it’s not too late to change things up.
If you’re craving connection to your work and a great big dose of career happiness, there is one powerful little three-letter word that can get you there.
The three-letter word that packs a punch?
Why.
I know, I know. We’ve heard and read so many things about “finding your why” that it’s easy to disregard it and look the other way.
But I urge you to stick with me here… because tapping into your why is a powerful catalyst for career transition and advancement.
And with so many professionals feeling detached from their work, fuzzy on expectations, a lack of connection to their organization’s mission and underappreciated as hard-working human beings… change is needed. A spark is needed. One that will ignite renewed engagement and purpose.
Helping people find that spark – their spark - is what I love to do.
I am deeply passionate about helping professionals like you do what you love and use your amazing talents, abilities, skills and strengths to your best benefit.
I do what I do – and love what I do – because my purpose is to help people shine, feel proud and fulfilled and reach their dreams and goals.
This is my why. Connecting with my why makes me a better coach. What allows me to be a great coach is a deeper understanding of myself, my strengths and what makes me happy.
Every day, I commit to utilizing my CliftonStrengths. My top CliftonStrengths are Maximizer and Individualization. (You can find your top strengths here!)
These top two strengths speak directly to why I love what I do (and why I’m good at what I do!).
As a Maximizer, I thrive when striving for excellence and helping others do the same (no average goals here!). I find transforming something strong into something superb so thrilling! I am fascinated by other peoples’ strengths… searching them out, watching for telltale signs… and feel compelled to nurture these strengths once I’ve found them. It’s always about that stretch toward excellence.
My Individualization strength means that I instinctively identify what makes a person unique. What sets someone apart and makes them special and distinct? I believe everyone is remarkable in some way and love to find out exactly what makes them that way. As you can guess, I’m not a fan of generalized personality types because I like to focus on what makes us different – not how we’re all the same. This likely explains why I can pick just the right gifts for my friends… and just the right career choices for my clients. 😊
I love to spend time with people who need and appreciate my particular strengths and love to genuinely connect with people who have found and cultivated their own strengths. I have no desire to focus on what is lacking – choosing instead to make great things happen with the gifts I have… and my clients have.
As an Executive Coach, these two strengths allow me to help others find their why… which is what I love to do!
You shouldn’t have to wait any longer to love your career or business.
Tap into your why and embrace the entrepreneurial mindset that empowers you to align your career choices with the things you value most. You’ll feel your passion, resilience, inspiration and purpose come rushing back… allowing you to navigate your career transition and advancement with renewed confidence and excitement.
Tapping into your why (and utilizing your top strengths) will help you:
➕ Get Clear on Your Goals & Values: To understand your why, you must identify your core values, passions and motivations. This helps you identify what truly matters to you in your career and clearly see your long-term goals and aspirations. This clarity serves as a guiding force, helping you make decisions aligned with your values and empowering you to pursue opportunities that resonate with your sense of purpose.
➕ Inspire Innovation & Creativity: Your why is the foundation for innovation and creativity. This – along with your purpose – helps you to see things from a unique perspective, challenge conventional wisdom and explore new possibilities. This mindset encourages you to seek innovative solutions to problems, identify untapped opportunities and embrace experimentation as you grow and progress.
➕ Master Strategic Decision-Making: Do you want a clear lens through which to evaluate opportunities and make strategic decisions? Tap into your why! You’ll assess career choices based on how well they align with your values, passions and long-term plans - prioritizing opportunities that support your vision for success and avoid distractions or detours that may lead you off course.
➕ Cultivate Authentic Leadership: Your why shapes your leadership style and influences how you engage with others along your professional path. When you lead with authenticity and purpose, you inspire trust, invite collaboration and attract individuals who share your values and vision. This not only enhances your effectiveness as a leader but also creates a supportive environment that fuels entrepreneurial endeavors and collective growth.
